A Fulton Restaurant Tradition Since 1939.

The Keg is the oldest and longest running restaurant in Fulton, Kentucky and most of its surrounding area. Since its humble beginnings in a pool hall, The Keg has become an institution and household name that extends well beyond this region.

It all started with immigration to the United States by the Homra family. The Homras chose the Fulton area to settle from their native Lebanon. The Lebanese people had been merchants for 1000s of years, and are known as uncanny businessmen. The Homra families were staples on Lake Street during the early days of Fulton, opening various clothing stores in downtown. One of those Homras, Mr. Foad Homra, began in the early 1930s in a small pool hall learning the art of feeding the working class man and perfecting the “art of the greasy spoon.” It was in that pool hall that Fred Homra started serving the same white beans you find on our menu today. He
brought his white beans with him, and soon bought one of the first electric rotisseries and began serving the now famous Keg ribs.

At the end of World War II, Fred's brother, Foad Homra joined his brother as a partner in the upstart young business venture, and they watched their business grow throughout the years. Almost from the beginning, Mr. Sherman Bransford worked for the Homra brothers and became like family to them. Sherman tended the ribs on the rotisserie. He, Charley Noles and Troy Churchwell perfected Foad & Fred's white beans with rib drippings, and served up the bowls of beans, rib sandwiches, and cold mugs of beer.

Concerning the history of the building, the front and back bar, made of white pine and other various woods, goes back to the days of prohibition. Our current main dining area on the lower level is where The Keg Liquor store once operated. Prior to the turn of the century, this same area was said to be a livery stable. The ornate tin roof in the foyer is authentic to the Keg of yesteryear. This foyer is also said to be the very beginnings of Jack Graves Barber Shop.

We welcome you back to The Keg and hope to carry on the rich tradition of great hospitality that started nearly 80 years ago.
